More and more merchandisers are trying to find new ways to reach consumers, and are still looking to spend more in different ways, says Russell Young, senior manager, Strategic Alliances for Samsung, predicting further growth in the digital signage industry. One of the most exciting projects Samsung recently completed was its work with Coke on a new type of vending machine for the brand. The vending industry needed a kick in the pants . It needed something to generate excitement, Young explains. The concept, which went to market in the spring, replaces the flat, one-dimensional door of the vending machine with a door fitted with a 46-inch touch screen to promote the Coca-Cola brand as well as specific events it hosts and supports. From a bottlers perspective, its the same old machine, but on the front, its a whole new experience, Young says.
