Canadian small business?
I wish to resell wholesale merchandise thru Ebay, street vending, flea markets, etc. I
wilI be buying from both Canada & America. I tried registering under my own name as sole propriator but apparently I can't.
Do I need a special business name?
Is a resale/seller permit and tax ID one and the same?
Is a tax ID a tax number?
Are they referring to the Provincial Sales Tax?

Resale permit and tax ID are NOT one in the same
a tax ID and a FEIN (fed employee ident nunmber) ARE the same.
The sales tax number is what you use to identify yourself to pay sales tax TO the province
A tax ID is a state number to EXEMPT you from paying sales tax on items you are reselling.
With Ebay, you need none of these things as far as Ebay is concerned, but will need them for reporting your taxable sales and hiring employees to your local government.

If your business is mainly on eBay, then you don't need a business license or business name. But I would recommend it if you are going to use it as your main source of income.
I don't know the specifics of Canadian or Provincial laws up there, but down here, you don't need to worry about licenses if you have an eBay business.
Just be ready to show the numbers at tax time.
